Black Marriage Day
In Honor of Black Marriage Day (Sunday, March 28th) Tyler Perry’s
WHY DID I GET MARRIED TOO? will be partnering with Black Marriage Day
founder and Executive Director of Wedded Bliss Foundation to hold a Marriage
Renewal Ceremony at Union Temple Baptist Church in Southeast Washington at
1pm. The ceremony will be performed by well know Rev Willie Wilson.
Wedded Bliss Foundation Executive Director, Nisa Muhammad, created the
national initiative to promote marriage in the Black community in response
to the bleak statistics about marriage. The event was designed to create
cultural change in the Black community to rethink the way people look at
marriage. Muhammad believes marriage must be celebrated and the Black
community must begin the celebration
The event at Union Temple Baptist Church will highlight the benefits of
married life and offer celebrations to strengthen and promote marriage in
the Washington DC Black community. We are expecting over 200 couples to
participate. After the ceremony, we will have a reception hosted by WPGC-FM
and give one lucky couple a trip to the Bahamas. Lionsgate Films has decided
to tie in with Black Marriage Day because Tyler Perry’s new film WHY DO I
GET MARRIED TOO touches on the same key elements of marriage, as Nisa
Muhammad’s message. Lionsgate Films is hosting 5 Black Marriage Days across
the country, Washington being one of them. The other cities are Atlanta,
Chicago, Dallas and Philadelphia.
The event is free to all black couples who would like to come to the church
on Sunday, March 28th
