JPC and G&A Productions hosted a poetry slam event for the FX Network's national poetry slam competition on April 6, 2004. This competition coincided with the FX Network release of Redemption starring Jamie Foxx, Lynn Whitfield and CCH Pounder and directed by Vondie Curtis Hall. The film is an inspiring true life story of Stan "Tookie" Williams, the co-founder of the infamous Crips street gang, whose time in jail inspired him to pen numerous books and institute programs that steer inner-city youth away from violence. His efforts have earned him nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize and a Nobel Prize for Literature.
All regional winners will have their poems read on the radio and their photos in Vibe magazine.
